Mark Tournoff was born in Aldershot, Hampshire in 1962. He was educated at Lord Wandsworth College, near Basingstoke. He studied Theology at Exeter University, and later Management Accountancy at Croydon Business School. He has worked in the Civil Service, the Health Service and the transport industry. He has travelled extensively within the United Kingdom and on the continent.
He has previously written flute music, songs, sketches and short stories. His decision to become a novelist followed a course of study with "The Writing College", during which the plot for "A Nightmare in Paradise" was conceived.
Between 2004 and 2006 Mark became one of the foremost contestants of recent years on Channel 4's Countdown and also won the maximum prize on Channel5's Brainteaser.
